 MacMillan Cancer Support Cafe

Thursday 30th September saw the relaunch of our weekly Community Café event. We used the first café of the new academic year to fundraise for MacMillan Cancer Support, and hosted an afternoon tea to which all students, parents, carers and staff were invited.

Students and Cookery teachers from Raikes and Russet House worked tirelessly to bake a veritable feast of cakes and biscuits including lemon drizzle cake, banoffee muffins, shortbread, brownies, Victoria sandwich and cup-cakes to name but a few.

The café was beautifully decorated with bunting made by students who took great pride in their work. On the day itself, the café was packed to the rafters with visitors who bought lots of cake and participated in games such as ‘guess the weight of the cake’ and ‘how many sweets in the jar’. One of the Raikes students ensured that our visitors were never without a hot drink and had the responsibility of collecting donations. A grand total of £110.00 was raised.

The event was particularly poignant to staff as we remembered our lovely colleague, Elaine Oldfield, who sadly lost her battle to cancer recently. We will always remember her bubbly personality, wonderful sense of humour and beautiful smile.
