School Meals

As a healthy school we encourage our pupils to understand the importance of eating a balanced diet, which includes plenty of fresh food. We discourage any chocolate, fizzy drinks, sweets and crisps etc. at our sites. Should a pupil bring these to school they will be encouraged to hand these in and we will return them to the pupil at the end of the day.

GFAPS provide a healthy lunch and snack for all of our pupils. At The Raikes Centre and Russet House lunches are cooked on site as part of the curriculum. The primary centre has its meals delivered daily from St Peters High School.  All of out centres provide the option of breakfast. The school bears the cost of these meals and offers them free of charge to the pupils.

If you are in receipt of certain benefits your child may be eligible for a free school meal. Please inform us if you think your child is eligible at your child's induction meeting.

All Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils are entitled to a school meal free of charge every day under the government Universal Free School Meals initiative.

Eating lunch at Raikes Centre and Russet House

Our good quality, home cooked meals are prepared and cooked from scratch by our amazing and talented students. As a school, we use the Eatwell Guide to inform us about offering well-balanced and nutritious meals on our menu. The students decide what meal they want to cook and each group prepare and cook for the whole school, once a week. The students look forward to cooking for others, serving to present their food attractively and enjoy eating together, around a table, sharing stories with students and staff alike. The menu is varied and often challenging, as the students want to try to replicate a meal that they regularly eat at home or have had in a restaurant or from a take-away menu or just something that they have eaten in the past and liked! We hope, in the future, to cook with our own grown produce to understand a little bit more about where our food comes from and make the way we shop for ingredients more sustainable and economical. We welcome parents/carers, members of the local community, restaurant critics and Ofsted inspectors to join us in enjoying lunch at GFAPS!
