GFAPS Primary - Joys Green

Welcome to Joy’s Green.

Our centre provides full time education for primary aged children. We provide an active curriculum to engage our children in learning. The centre is set up to provide a nurturing environment where our children, who have often had negative experiences in education settings, can flourish. Our highly trained and supportive staff work with children to help them find new strategies to manage their needs. A variety of interventions and approaches also support the academic, emotional and social needs of our children. Children are provided with challenge so that they can succeed in our settings and in their next school.

Children in KS1 and KS2 access lessons in English, Maths, Science, Computing, PSHE, Art, PE and topic. Each topic is developed as part of a creative and collaborative curriculum. Our curriculum aims to develop thinking skills, team work, promotes self-esteem and independent working through a range of activities. We use all of our activities, trips and lessons to promote and nurture positive behaviours and values in our children.

In KS1 our children learn phonics through resources from a range of sources. These are adapted to meet the bespoke needs of each learner. Similarly, our reading scheme uses books from a range of sources. Children access these in both KS1 and KS2. By using a range of reading schemes we hope that children will be familiar with a range of reading materials when they move on to a new setting.

Referrals to our setting are made through the Local Authority. This can either happen when a child is excluded from school or through the agreement of the Local Authority to commission a school place. Additionally primary schools within Gloucestershire can refer a child for a partnership place at our centre. Partnerships usually last for 6 weeks with the child attending centre 2 days a week. Alternative arrangements can be made in some circumstances. Primary children are regularly given the opportunity to sit SATs in KS1 and KS2.

Our aim is to support children, so they can return to school equipped with the skills needed to be successful learners.
